Martha's Statement
"I am drawn to the strange, the subversive, the unloved. I am also drawn to classically adorable things like kittens and rainbows. I explore good and evil and the journeys we are all on. I'm a huge fan of Edward Gorey, Tim Burton, Vincent Price, Rene Magritte, and Dr. Seuss."
About Martha HullMartha Hull lives in Portland, Oregon, land of waterfalls, moss, flowers, and clouds. A native Vermonter (land of cows, mosquitoes, and rolling green hills), Martha eventually left when her allergy to winter became unbearable. Her oblique outlook on the world was forged in the harsh Vermont climate (which fosters wry humor). She takes much joy from seeing things in unconventional ways. She honed her drawing skills at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and loves to make things more than just about anything. Martha once was an archaeologist and excavated early sites in Vermont and New York ranging from 11,000 to 200 years old. She has also worked as a graphic designer and illustrator, a humane shelter technician, a baker of cheesecakes, an administrative assistant, a call center drone, a model (she was very young), a grocery store cashier, a seller of food at music festivals, and a lion tamer. Well, most of these things. She has had the luck to have never had to wear a costume as a daily requirement of any job, unless you count "business casual" or a hairnet. |
